New Jersey's best place in the wild for seeing snakes?  Many say it's the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Morris County.  The Great Swamp lived up to its reputation this past weekend, as Wild New Jersey's David Wheeler toured the boardwalk trails and found an abundance of water snakes and garter snakes, a spotted turtle, and ample birdlife.

While spring foliage makes it more difficult to see the snakes than the more barren branches of late April, the many open wetland clearings that line the Great Swamp's boardwalk trails offer plenty of chances for serpent sightings.  See below for more photos from this nature walk.
