WNJ Exclusive: Wild New Jersey remembers Charlie Kontos

 
Rest In Peace, New Jersey wildlife reseacher Charlie Kontos.

New Jersey wildlife researcher and enthusiast Charles C. Kontos Jr. of New Brunswick passed on Saturday, May 27, 2010, at home at the age of 33 years old.   Kontos founded www.NJFishers.org , and was the first to document and verify the return of the Fisher in New Jersey.  Kontos was enrolled in the PhD program at Rutgers in Ecology, Evolution & Natural Resources Rutgers. He conducted extensive fieldwork on extirpated predators of New Jersey.  Kontos was also a member of the Rutgers Scarlet Knight Herons World Series of Birding team , that placed 9th in this years competition.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made out to The Nature Conservatory in Charlie's name, 1119 County Rd. 519, Newton, N.J. 07860.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday, June 2 at 10 a.m. from the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green St., Woodbridge. (
www.costello-greiner.com) Interment will be in Cloverleaf Memorial Park in Woodbridge. Visitation will be today, June 1st from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
