APP.com: Goldfinches to hummingbirds: Bird feeders can be sanctuary for you, too

A male (left) and a female House Finch eat from a bird feeder at the Lenoir Preserve in Yonkers, N.Y. Your options on food depend on the birds you want to attract. Goldfinches prefer thistle while orioles are actually fond of orange slices and grape jelly.

Although plenty of food is generally available for wild birds in spring and summer, adding backyard feeders will bring wildlife in for a closer look. You might spot birds that visit your area only in the summer, birds you've never seen before or babies calling and shaking their wings as they wait to be fed.
In the Midwest, for example, rose-breasted grosbeaks and cedar waxwings arrive in the spring. Fall birds can include juncos and sparrows, which pause in Indiana on their journey south. Chickadees, nuthatches, titmice and cardinals are among the year-round regulars spotted at backyard feeders.

Great advice about feeders for all birds!!Hummingbirds love many different kinds of feeders. There are basic feeders commonly see. Tray feeders are very popular with hummingbirds. They are great for photography this beautiful bird. I agree with your recommendation for window feeders. It is important for a beginner to use feeders that are easy to clean. These feeders should be cleaned regularly. Many are dishwasher safe. The hummingbirds love my feeders because it is easy for them to perch on them.
