WNJ Exclusive: Killdeer nest at the Triple C Ranch

Adult killdeer with her two chicks.
The Triple C Ranch's Killdeer are nesting again this Spring in full force. One pair has three chicks running around while another pair has 4 eggs still waiting to hatch. WildNewJersey.tv's Dana Patterson and Jill Weislo had a difficult time keeping up with these quick birds, but were able to get a few good pictures. The female kept a close eye on both us and her chicks, and the father was never too far away. Anytime we got too close she performed her "broken wing" dance, and a few times she even sat on her chicks. Stay tuned for more pictures as the eggs start to hatch!

Is that a killdeer with 6 legs? No! It's the mother sitting on top of her two chicks.
