The Star-Ledger: Cherry Blossom Festival at Branch Brook Park goes into full bloom next week

The pace of cherry blossom plantings in historic Branch Brook Park was so swift it conjured up images of a flower-petal version of the arms race. But now, in this war of the blooms, New Jersey is the victor, with its 4,100 trees surpassing the 3,750 in the nation’s capital. "This is the largest collection in one site, and it’s also the most diverse," said Brad Garner, a landscape architect with Rhodeside & Harwell of Alexandria, Va. His firm replenished the trees in Branch Brook and selected the 17 varieties that provide a long bloom period.
