New Jersey's trout season opens April 10 at 8 a.m. For opening day alone, the Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife will release nearly 190,000 trout throughout the state. By the end of May, nearly 600,000 trout will be stocked in waters statewide. Most of the fish stocked during spring are 10 1/2 inches long and weigh half a pound. But anglers also will have the chance to catch bragging-sized trout this season. During April and May, the Division of Fish and Wildlife releases more than 6,000 big breeder trout, weighing 2 pounds to 5 pounds.
