The Holgate Unit of the Brigantine Wilderness area at the southern end of Long Beach Island will be closed to the public beginning Thursday in preparation for the return of migratory nesting birds. The area, part of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, will remain closed until Aug. 31, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
