Environment New Jersey: Help stop the fish kills in Barnegat Bay

Every day, the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant sucks up over 1.4 billion gallons of water from Barnegat Bay, and dumps it back in at super-hot temperatures. What happens because of this massive daily suction?
Our marine wildlife pay the price. Ecologists estimate that billions of fish, fish eggs and larvae are killed each year, and sea turtles are injured and killed as well. You read that right — that's billions with a B.

The good news is that there is affordable technology that could stop this marine massacre. It would reduce the plant's water intake by at least 70 percent, and stop the massive fish kills. New Jersey environmental regulators are considering a proposal right now to protect Barnegat Bay and the marine wildlife that lives there. We need to speak up, and urge them to crack down on this super-heated pollution.
