American Littoral Society: Bear Swamp Old-Growth Forest Tour on March 7th

On Sunday, March 7, at 12:00 Noon the Littoral Society and an expert from the Natural Lands Trust will explore the timeless old-growth forest of Bear Swamp. Located in Downe Township in Cumberland County, this region comprises 500 to 700-year-old blackgum, sweetgum and huge holly trees. Bear Swamp is one of the best places in the mid-Atlantic to spot bald eagles. This site is arguably the oldest old-growth forest in the northeast and is not open to the general public so don't miss this opportunity!
*The Bear Swamp guided walk is about 3 hours long and will travel through possible snow and along ungroomed terrain. Please dress appropriately. Food is not provided. There are no public restrooms. This is a snow or shine event. Cost for Littoral Society members is $15 and for non-members $20.
Directions:
To Railroad Ave from Millville (Exit 24 off Route 55): Take Route 49 West to County Road 555 South (left off 49 West). Follow County Road 555 South for approx 6 miles. Railroad Ave is on the right off 555, just past Ackley Road. Please meet alongside Railroad Ave at 12:00 pm, across from sand mining scale house facility. Click here to view a map.
