The Nature Center of Cape May has the perfect antidote for your family’s winter cabin fever – “Kids Can Expo,” coming up Sunday, February 21 at Cape May Elementary School, in Cape May. The event runs from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. With headlining entertainment like the Joanne Regan Dancers, Gibson’s Irish School of Dance, the Turtlesinger, Hamer’s School of Karate and the Just-4-Fun Railroad, this year’s “Kids Can” promises to be another crowd pleaser. Natural history highlights will include Life in a Log, Leaf Critters, Diggin’ the Dirt, Tornado Tubes and “Recycling Rocks” activities. Special emphasis will be given this year to the problem of beach litter and marine debris in the “Big Beach Clean Up Exhibit.”
Crowd favorites such as ocean touch-tank critters from the Wetlands Institute and native and nonnative reptiles from Lower Cape May Regional High School’s science classes and Cape May Point State Park will be on hand. Many local cultural and environmental organizations are participating as well with make-n-take crafts, educational exhibits and recycling activities, including 4-H Teen Ambassadors, the Skimmer Salt Marsh Safari Tour Boat, the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts, the Nature Conservancy, and the Cape May County MUA. Nature center program director Sue Slotterback will lead explorations of the marsh along the beautiful Cape Island Creek Nature Trail throughout the day. The Cape May Kiwanis will be serving up delicious Lucky Bones Backwater Grille chili, Erma Deli pizza, hot dogs, popcorn, and more.
The admission price is $5.00 per person. Children two years old and under are admitted free of charge. There is a nominal fee for food and some crafts. So, if you are looking for something fun to do on a cold winter day, come spend it with the Nature Center of Cape May and all their friends at “Kids Can Expo.” Cape May Elementary School is located at 921 Lafayette Street, in Cape May.
