Passaic County officials and bow hunters are acting like the proverbial deer caught in the headlights when it comes to giving clear answers about the Garret Mountain deer hunt. Since late December, when the county quietly approved its first-ever culling, county officials have refused to meet with nearby residents on the issue. And now with the cull ongoing, the county is reluctant to provide daily kill updates — even though deer are a protected game animal and the meat is to be donated to a pantry.
