The Star-Ledger: Black bear hunting more likely with Christie as governor

It should be an exciting year for New Jersey sportsmen as a new governor — a man who has pledged to support hunting more than his prior two predecessors — takes the helm. For starters, it’s possible, even likely, that Chris Christie, a Republican, will allow a black bear hunting season this year.
The reinstatement of a bear season by the Christie administration would be an action more important in its symbolism than in substance.Although managing the bear population is vital, a relatively small percentage of Garden State sportsmen are very interested in hunting forbears.
