Mollie Smith won’t throw her Christmas tree to the curb this year. Instead, the Bloomfield resident’s potted five-foot blue spruce will end up in Brookdale Park, where she’ll watch it grow for the rest of her life. "I love the idea of my family going into the park each winter and visiting the tree as my daughter grows," Smith said. The donation is part of a program Smith founded this year that will take people’s potted Christmas trees to help renew Brookdale Park’s aging stock.
