Dery Bennett, a leading environmental activist who fought against ocean dumping off the Jersey Shore, for preserving coastal lands and wetlands, and for public access, died Tuesday. He was 79."He was probably one of the best advocates that the nation's coast and ocean has ever had," said Tim Dillingham, executive director of the American Littoral Society, the Sandy Hook-based coastal conservation group that Bennett once headed.
