The Record: DEP to capture aggressive bear after death of dog

Officials from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) are planning to trap and condition a purportedly aggressive black bear this week after a dog was attacked and killed. Chico or Chiquito, a 5-year-old Jack Russell terrier, was fatally wounded by a black bear outside a Deborah Lane home on the night of Monday, Sept. 7. The dog's owner is calling for the state to take action to better control the bear population in the Highlands region.
