The 26th Annual World Series of Birding brought sightings of 269 species of birds in New Jersey, all within a single day.  Over 100 teams took part in the May 9 event.  Overall, the World Series of Birding has raised over $8 million for bird conservation since it was founded in 1984 by the New Jersey Audubon Society.

Every competitive event needs a winner, however.  And the 2009 World Series was won by Lagerhead Shrikes, sponsored by Nikon / DVOC, and made up of Captain Mike Fritz, Zach Baer, Bert Filemyr, and Eric Pilotte.  The team saw an amazing 229 species that day!
