Edison Wetlands Association and Princeton Hydro this week began their three-day transect of the Dismal Swamp Conservation Area. Despite 40 degree temperatures, the group was excited to find a garter snake basking on an abandoned rail bed, in addition to a red fox, wild turkeys, rusty blackbirds and various raptors. According to Edison Wetlands Association's Executive Director Robert Spiegel, the scenic Metuchen portion of the Dismal Swamp Conservation Area offers a range of wetlands and forested upland habitat, while some areas dominated by invasives offer an ideal opportunity for ecological restoration. Area resembles a Louisiana bayou or a Florida everglade. Great photo quality!
